Designing Women show complete dvd box set collection all tv episodes and seasons on dvds
The American television sitcom "designing women" focuses on the eccentric personal and working lives of one man and four southern women of an interior design firm based in Atlanta Georgia. The show was aired to the American public by the CBS television network from the 29th of September 1986 to the 24th of May 1993. Designing women was created and produced by writer Linda Bloodworth-Thompson who wrote several of the initial episodes; she is also credited for creating episodes for other famous television sitcoms such as M*A*S*H, Rhoda and Paper Moon among others.
In the beginning the show centers on the sister characters Julia Sugarbaker - played by actress Dixie carter, and Suzanne Sugarbaker - played by Delta Burke. The two can be described as having opposing traits with Julia have an aura of outspoken liberal intellectualism and Suzanne being depicted as a self centered, incredibly wealthy, flashy former Miss Georgia and beauty queen. Their contrasting ways of looking at the world and dealing with challenges of their lives has not stopped them from working together to build a successful interior design firm named quite appropriately, Sugarbaker designs.
There roles in the firm often bring subtle conflict between the two and between Suzanne and the other workers in the firm with Julia handling most of the work that keeps the company afloat and Suzanne, aside from providing the financial backing for the firm, "acting" as the company's salesperson. Other characters in the show include Mary Jo Shively, a hard headed designer played by Annie Potts; a naive-to-a-fault office manager, Charlene Frazier Stillfield played by Jean Smart and Anthony Bouvier played by Meshach Taylor. Meshach Taylor's character Anthony is a former prison inmate and is the only male staff in the firm; he later becomes a partner in the firm. Bernice Clifton - played by Alice Ghostley, is characterized as a forgetful friend to the Sugarbaker sisters.
The show run for seven seasons in total, changing characters along the way for example Suzanne character leaves the show by moving to a different country (Japan); a move that was prompted by the audience who came to despise her role in the sitcom.
